When Steve Jobs died, I was a lot more sad than I thought I would be. I have a horrible memory, but I can clearly remember exactly what I was doing when I saw the news story break on TV. I can only recall exactly what I was doing for very few events. September 11, the first war in the Gulf, Michael Jackson’s death and now the death of Steve Jobs are on that very short list.

I’ve had to reflect a little on why I cared so much. I never met the man, everything I’ve read about him has pointed to him being an uncaring, angry man unable to manage himself, or even his business with finesse. But still I am saddened.

An apple fan-boy I am not, but I realized that the reason this particular individual leaving the earth is so significant to me is that he knew what technology should be capable of. He knew how humans should interact with technology. He made it accessible, and beautiful.

I’ve always been the type of person that had to make due with the solutions available. I have had my computer hooked up to my television since the early 2000′s through various techniques. Before there were smart TV’s I had a beige box sitting under my 32 inch Magnavox tube tv that must have weighed 150 lbs. I had to figure out how to get my media out to the biggest screen in my house. In the late 90′s I would take my beige box, and sand it down to the metal, where I would put a clear coat on it, cut some holes in it for fans, and rig up a switch and led light system to an empty drive bay so that I could turn the fans on and off. Steve knew what I wanted. He knew that there were more elegant solutions to problems, and he had the vision and resources to create them.

Most people don’t know what the problems are. If you were to ask a cook how to improve on the measuring cup they might have known that it wasn’t convenient to have to bend down to get eye level with the counter top every time they measured a liquid. Or that getting all of the sour cream out of a measuring cup was something that could be improved upon. It took an innovator to recognize that these were problems that could be improved on, and act on that.

In the tech world we are seeing some software, or web solutions to problems, some of these are great. Like Assistly’s application that let’s a business respond to customer complaints and inquiries, no matter where they were posted. Maybe someone sent a tweet, or mentioned the business in a Facebook status update, with Assistly, you can answer, and record those inquiries with ease.

But when it comes to hardware, most manufacturers are doing what I was forced to do with my old tower, modified and connected to my home theater setup. They are simply trying to work with the parts that are currently available. Why didn’t any manufacturers think to combine the PC with the monitor? Because it would cost a lot of money, and consumers were satisfied with the rats nest of cables connecting all the peripherals and the monitor. So why innovate?

Still, with Jobs gone it’s not all doom and gloom. There are flickers of hope. For instance a Dallas Texas Photo Booth company called Flicker Stage has taken the idea of a photo studio and put it into an elegant package that would make Steve proud. All the softbox lighting, camera, trigger and post processing are done in one beautiful package and beamed through wifi straight to an online gallery. Why hasn’t this already been done? I can only hope that there are more out there with the Flicker Stage vision, and more out there that will replace Steve Jobs. We didn’t get the flying cars, but with some innovators out there, we can always have some hope.

I thought of a cool way to pick up girls when you go out by yourself and you don’t have a wing-man to help. I decided to try out wearing a funny name badge that says my name and a funny saying on it. This way everybody looks at your name badge and you can tell if they are interested because they break the ice by saying something about it. It’s true, and as with many GTA wedding photographers the words you don’t want to hear are “they don’t allow the use of flash”. What is this referring to? It’s the churches, or other religious establishments. Many of them believe it distracts from the wedding, or takes away from the vows of the couple. There are a few alternatives. The first thing to do is ramp up the ISO setting on your camera. Modern cameras are very good at noise compression (including the Canon 5D Mark II’s I shoot with). Additionally you will want the aperture set fairly high (which means the numbers are almost as low as they go) to allow more light in. Worst case, if you think you missed a moment, re-stage it afterwards. This is not ideal, but better than missing it!

I so hate art projects. I do not have a creative minds to think of a good art project. But after seeing the images of Sohail Khan, I did an art project that can compete internationally. But that is something too far from reality though, but the art project I made is something that I am really proud of especially that it is my first time to create something like that considering my previous art projects in the past years. My mother is too happy and she considers that art project as a success and an achievement at the same time. She is still in the state of disbelief that I can really do such art project. It is all because of Sohail Khan images. If before I hated the art subject, now it is my favorite art subject. I never thought that I will feel positive affection to the subject.

If I was going to be a photographer then I would want to learn how to be a photographer to the absolute best of my ability so that I could provide the best service and the best photos that anyone could ever ask for.

I did not see what the big idea was about some photography course in Nottingham but my partner insisted on me taking it. We have run a photography studio for a multiple amount of years in town here and I have never taken a course before, so I did not really want to take one now. My partner told me there is going to be a ton of information in these workshops that will help me to take better photographs. I was not sure whether I should take that as an insult or what. Because it sort of sounded like I could not take photos. But I let it slide and went to the workshop. I actually went to several of them. And I loved them. I will admit it now, that I really did learn some very helpful tips and I do actually take better pictures now as a matter of fact.

I am in eighth grade. It is really boring. I spend most of my time during the day practicing how to draw dragons. This is so I can save up and get myself into art school. Then after art school I want to get an apprenticeship at a tattoo parlor. I am already building up my portfolio book so I can be ready in case any tattoo artists are willing to look at it before I graduate from art school.

The other things I need to do is to get into some medical classes. You need to know about skin problems and infection to be a tattoo artist. So I am trying to do well in science so I can get into some basic first aid classes after I turn 16. I also need to have some experience in a tattoo parlor, even if it is just washing floors.
